Propane Garage Heater

Many homeowners possess vehicles that are housed inside a garage.  Appropriate heating devices must be provided lest the components of the car freeze in its tracks, which means that the members of the household might be forced to trudge through the snow instead of enjoying the benefits of a warm car.  Fortunately, there are propane heaters to assist homeowners in this purpose.

What is a Propane Heater?

In simple terms, propane heaters utilize either liquefied petroleum gas or propane to provide heat to a house.  Usually, these heaters are made up of burners, ignition and shut-off switches, reflectors, regulators and hoses.  Homeowners who desire to save money on the purchase and use of expensive electric heaters prefer propane heaters than, say, wood-fed types.

Propane Garage Heaters: Description and Uses

Propane garage heaters function in the same way as its standard propane heater counterparts in that these also use LPG or propane as fuel to provide warmth to an area.  The main difference is that propane garage heaters are designed to function safely and effectively in an enclosed space like the garage.  Keep in mind that other propane heaters require adequate ventilation for indoor use.

These propane heaters are designed for safe use even in an enclosed space because of the metal sheets that prevent flames from touching combustible materials outside of the equipment and vents that allow for proper air circulation.

Pros and Cons

Propane garage heaters offer an economical and practical way to provide warmth to the garage and to the vehicles therein.  For one thing, these cost less to operate than electric heaters.  For another thing, these can be portable and lightweight such that different areas of the garage can be heated up depending on your need.

Of course, there is also the fact that propane garage heaters are safe to use, with very little to no dangerous emissions.  Plus, you can use them to heat up barns, kennels and stables aside from the garage.

On the downside, there are heavier models that cannot be mounted on walls and, hence, take up floor space in a cramped garage.  You also need to fill up the garage heaters at the gasoline station as well as regularly check for leaks.  Still, you will agree that these are standard operating procedures for heaters and so are nothing more than small inconveniences.

Brands, Sizes and Types

Again, popular brands of propane garage heaters are Coleman and Mr. Heater.  Sizes can range from the lighter wall-mounted types to the heavier floor models that, of course, have different heating capacities.

Cost Considerations

Just like with other propane heaters, prices depend on the heating capacity expressed in BTU, the size of the unit and the brand quality.  Expect to pay at least a hundred dollars for the lightweight, portable models and upwards of $500 for the heavier and larger models.

Where to Buy One and Getting A Good Deal

It is a good idea to check out local hardware stores first.  Look at the models available that best fit the heating requirements of your garage and then look at online sites for similar models.  Compare the prices between the two outlets including shipping charges and choose the more affordable option.

Your beloved car deserves warmth during the winter season.  After all, it will provide you and your family members with a warm cocoon on the road, too.
